One thing I’ve picked up from my wonderful wife is the procrastination bug. I used to procrastinate a little before I met Robyn, but after witnessing a few last minute cram sessions before exams by the master, it’s taken hold a bit more.

Even during those cram sessions where she absolutely needed to get some studying done, she’d magically still find time to browse the web, create new blog posts or play bookworm(I almost had to take her mobile phone away when I caught her playing games on it a couple days before an exam).

When it comes to blog posts, you may notice that her contributions to her website rise exponentially when she has something else important to do.

So here I am. Work to do, and I’m writing a post to my family and friends. I’ll still get my work done today, but instead of being done at a regular hour I’m going to be finishing up later tonight. I think you can truly agree that I am now fully consumed by the same illness that inflicts my wife.

Take this weekend for instance. I wanted to get some work done to lighten the load a bit today. Instead I completely revamped my website. It’s shiny, modern, and pretty. It’s got widgets! My widgets are more up-to-date windows into what I’m doing. I have a widget that lists my twitter posts. A widget for what books I’m reading. There’s one that counts down till when I’m in Vancouver next. A few photostreams are up that allow me to take photos and upload them from anywhere using my phone. My xbox live gamercard is there as well, showing what games I’ve played most recently. And there’s even a last.fm widget that tracks the music I’m listening to in real-time. All really nifty things that have been very effective in preventing me from getting work done.

What else is up in the kingdom of Robertson? Well little Lucas is walking. Toddling is probably the more appropriate term. He isn’t very graceful yet, but he can get around. It’s very impressive. I really can’t wait till he is able to talk. I’m very interested in having a conversation with him.

Anyways, I’ve got to get back to work. It’s beckoning me to get it done at a reasonable hour. We’ll see if I can find some other distractions from now until then.

Delivery came for me today. Actually technically 2 deliveries came for me today. The first being parts for my home theatre pc to fix a dying fan. It was making a grinding noise and that was not pleasant...but I digress.

The second delivery carried with it a letter from the department of immigration. And in that envelope I got some of the best news I’ve ever received

“Dear Mr Dunn,

I refer to your application for a permanent visa on Partner grounds (subclass 801). I am pleased to advise you that your application has been approved and that the following person/s included in it have been granted a permanent visa:

:DUNN, Robertson William (DOB 18/04/1978,M)”

All the hard work filling out the many forms, police checks, health checks, statutory declarations, and the collecting of evidence toward Robyn and my relationship has finally paid off. I am officially a permanent resident of Australia.

It’s a little funny though. When I answered the door to the courier, he noticed my Canucks t-shirt. Instantly recognizing that I am Canadian, he made a comment about hockey, and how he has a mate from Canada. That brings up a nice thought for me. Australia is now my confirmed home. But I’ll always be Canadian.

I made my blog password protected thinking it would be a more relaxed environment for me to start posting blog entries again. Now that was a dumb idea. I posted less blog posts and I’m sure many of you couldn’t remember the damn password I chose. So I’ve moved the site back to being open to everyone in the whole wide webinet. Although I’ve pulled a few photos and videos out away from public consumption.

So what’s going on in my life? Well, puppy is getting bigger....and cheekier. Work has almost doubled but I’m still getting by alright.

I’ve caught the reading bug a bit. Started by Emma and Carrie after my birthday when they bought me “Bone”. Since then I’ve read a small yet steady stream of novels including “Good Omens” and the first 2 Harry Potter books. I’m on the third Potter now.

And I’ve been sinking some time into my game development. It’s all only on paper at the moment, but I think it’s going to be fun when I finally start moving it into the actual development phase.

I’ve also finished a few of the games I picked up last time I was in Vancouver. Gears Of War 2 was guilty pleasure fun but the ending suffered from Matrix 2 syndrome. You know, when something doesn’t really finish but instead sets up the installment. That worked, what...once? Yeah I’m talking about Empire Strikes Back. I also “finished” Fallout 3. But you don’t really finish a game like that. I reckon I could go back into it and play it for months more. And I likely will.

There’s been more going on in my life, but I don’t want to go too nuts with my first post back in ages. Anyways, I won’t make any promises that I’ll keep this posting thing up. But I’ll give it a bit more effort. The one thing that might help this time around is that I’m not alone. Both Robyn and Carrie have started keeping their own blogs. Check them out.

I wasn’t expecting this to last forever. But every time the Canucks are eliminated I’m still a little in shock. This go around was the same I guess. But with a little extra helping of salt to go in this wound. It’s not the fact that they lost, but how they lost. They just kept getting the lead, and handing it away.

I’m not going to obsess over it. There’s always next year. But to quote something I read in a message board, “I really hope the Canucks win the cup before I die”
